Full-time Instructor of English as a Second Language Instructor

West Virginia State University is seeking qualified full-time instructors to teach various English as a second language (ESL) courses to international students in the ESL Program known as the Excellence in Culture and English Language Study (EXCELS). The full-time instructor serves as part of the ESL program team dedicated to supporting the EXCELS mission of providing quality English-language and cultural instruction to students from abroad. Qualifications:

  1. An earned master's degree in TESOL, TESL, Applied Linguistics, English Education with specialization in ESL/EFL/ELL, or related field.
  2. Teaching experience at a university-based intensive English program in the US.
  3. Work experience with a diverse student population.
  4. Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as interpersonal skills.
  5. Instructional technology skills utilized in an academic setting.
  6. Administrative and/or training experience at the college level is preferred.

INTO Marshall University

General English Instructor

  The General English language program is an intensive, short-term session designed for students of all levels of English who want to develop communications (both written and oral) skills in many social and professional situations while also learning aspects of American culture.  Instructors will provide students with opportunities to interact both within and outside the classroom in order to increase their understanding of English as they learn about American culture and practice using English for social, educational, and professional purposes.

 

Program Dates

  1. Start: July 9, 2015
  2. End: August 7, 2015

Key Responsibilities

  1. To teach 6 to 18 hours (1 to 3 classes) of General English classes each week for four weeks (all classes are 2 hours in length and meet a total of three times per week).
  2. To advise international students
  3. To attend pre-session teacher training and assist with student orientation
  4. To participate in weekly meetings with coordinators and other instructors for the same student cohort

Required Qualifications

  1. M.A. degree in TESL/TEFL or related field
  2. Extremely high English language proficiency

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  1. Familiarity with the use of appropriate classroom technology
  2. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively

Salary

  1. Per one 6-hour class + 8 hours per week as tutor in Learning Resource Center            $1360
  2. Per two 6-hour classes + 8 hours per week as tutor in Learning Resource Center        $2560
  3. Per three 6-hour classes       (no hours in Learning Resource Center)                                                $3600
